QUALITY & ASSURANCE
At McSkimming Shearing, quality isn’t just about tallies — it’s about doing the job properly, looking after stock, and running a shed that’s safe and respectful for everyone involved. We work across Waitaki, Mackenzie, Strath Taieri and Central Lakes, and we back our work with practical systems, clear communication, and documentation that stands up when it needs to.
What “quality” means to us
Quality starts before we arrive. We plan ahead, set expectations early, and turn up prepared. In the shed, we focus on tidy work, good shed flow, and a team culture where people look after each other and give a damn — because that’s what delivers consistent results for farmers year after year.
Assurance is built into the day-to-day
A big part of how we deliver consistent quality (and back it up) is our own tech: The Shearing Board™. We built it for McSkimming Shearing first — because we got sick of phone tag, paper tallies, and important assurance info living in someone’s notebook or getting remembered “later”.
The goal is simple: run better sheds, protect stock welfare, keep people safe, and make the paperwork side easy when assurance programmes or audits come knocking.
The Shearing Board™ app
Built for our own clients (not a generic system)
This isn’t a bolt-on app we bought off the shelf. We developed The Shearing Board™ to suit real shearing life in the South — patchy reception, fast-moving sheds, wet weather changes, and teams spread across multiple farms.
Staff get clear schedules, locations and job details, and farmers can see who’s coming and when — so everyone’s on the same page.
Assurance-ready records, captured while the work is happening
The Shearing Board™ helps us capture the right information in real time, without slowing the shed down. That includes:
-
Digital tally sheets (including offline use) with PDF export
-
Animal Welfare Officer (AWO) daily logs, welfare ratings, and reporting when needed
-
Health & Safety reporting, hazard tracking, and remedial actions/follow-ups
-
Dashboards and management reporting so trends don’t get missed and issues get closed out properly
Transparency that builds trust
For farmers, it means cleaner records and more transparency — not just “trust us, we’re onto it”. Where needed, you can access relevant job info and documentation for your own farm(s), supporting traceability, accountability, and continuous improvement alongside your assurance programme requirements.
